Nottingham Forest (A) Match Blog
On Sunday we visited the iconic City Ground for our WSL2 match vs Nottingham Forest.
We had paid for stadium parking but with no directions on the ticket we made our way to the main entrance only to be turned around by friendly stadium staff and directed to the correct parking.
Frustratingly the car park was at the opposite end of the stadium to the stand we were sitting in and as you can't walk around the edge of the stadium, it was a fair walk back to the ground.
We purchased a programme from the club shop. The club shop was impressive but that's no surprise for a Premier League side.

We then made our way to the turnstiles. We were made to get all our flags out and show stewards before being allowed in. Its not unheard of for stewards to want to check they are fire compliant but that wasn't the motive, they didn't even check that. They wanted to ensure we didn't have any offensive flags. Stewards were friendly enough but trying to get four flags out in a windy car park with two kids isn't ideal.

Our away section was to the bottom right of the stand. It was nice to have our own space away from the home fans. Around 35/40 Portsmouth fans were in attendance.
Up went the (non offensive) flags.

The stadium had food stalls which sold your basic food and drink. Nothing spectacular.

The stadium is very nice, you can imagine it's rocking when at capacity. The Peter Taylor stand could do with some updating, the seats are quite worn and you felt like you were constantly sliding off them. I understand this is in the clubs plans and no doubt it will look fantastic when done.
The view from our section whilst low and in the corner was ok.

After a bright start to the game Pompey let in late goals to lose 4-1. It was impossible to complain. Nottingham Forest invested very well in their team over the summer. They have pace and power and dominated the ball. They deserved the points and now sit an extremely impressive 3rd in the WSL2.
The attendance of just over 1000 was surprisingly low for me. With a well funded fully professional side playing at a stadium like that you would expect more. Especially in their first WSL2 season. Perhaps it will take time to build a fanbase.
As for Pompey we go again and now face a Southampton double header starting with an away League Cup game on Wednesday followed by a Fratton League game on Sunday.
