Pompey Women Visit Bramall Lane - Sheffield (A)

Pompey Women secured their first Championship victory with a 2-0 win against Sheffield United that has provided a huge boost in the battle to stay up!

It was a beautiful March day in Sheffield. Pompey fans made their way into the stadium to be greeted by a concourse with food stalls, candy floss machine and face painting. There was a large number of young supporters all armed with the dreaded clappers!

A DJ was blasting songs out pre match. So much so you could hardly hear the person next to you speak! The stewards were fantastic. They were very welcoming and accommodating as they helped us find a spot for our PWSC flag.

Sheff Utd fans were also very welcoming. There was a large number of families with young children and the atmosphere was passionate but measured.

Pompey fans were in good voice throughout the game, plenty of "Play up Pompey" chants. The goal celebrations certainly turn some young Sheffield United fans heads as they wondered what all these people were jumping around for.

The game was on a knife edge until the red card, from which point Pompey gained complete control. We saw a level of confidence and moments of quality akin to last season from the team. The scenes at full time were very special, perhaps even a couple of tears in the eye.

The players have worked hard and deserved this win. Our loyal supporters have travelled thousands of miles for very little reward this season so the full time whistle saw some fantastic scenes.
