Bristol City (A) Match Blog

On Sunday Pompey Women visited the Robins High Performance Centre to face Bristol City in their first away game of the new season. The match was being played there due to the Women's Rugby World Cup Quarter Final being played at Ashton Gate.

We arrived at the ground to be greeted by security who directed us to the parking spaces behind the stand.

It was good to see a shuttle bus running from the train station, a fantastic idea to encourage supporters to attend. We made our way behind the main stand where our tickets were checked. A Food stall was located by the stand selling hot food and various drinks. There was a small club shop located in one of the rooms of the stand but disappointingly no match programmes.

The ground consisted of a small stand along one side of the pitch with the other sides open. However supporters were not allowed anywhere other than the main stand.

The main stand design and layout was disappointing. The rain was persistent all match and the roof offered almost no protection. Most fans resorted to standing behind the seating area to try and avoid some of the rain although even standing at the back you still got hit when the wind changed directions. These areas then became crowded making it hard to see all the pitch. It cost our family of four £42 to get into this match and we spent most of it being rained on with a restricted view of the game. Had it not been raining it would have been a much nicer experience.

We asked stewards for clarification on where we could hang our flags, they said they would let us know and never did.

The playing surface itself was immaculate and unaffected by all the rain allowing the match to go ahead. Pompey looked smart in their white kit, blue shorts and white socks.

The result didn't go our way, but it's early in the season and we have a lot of young new players to gel into the squad.

Tia Primmer was the stand out player for me, she worked hard and offered a bit of threat when we went forward. She was unlucky when her ranged effort cannoned off the bar in the first half.

Next up for Pompey is a huge match at Fratton Park vs Sheffield Utd.
